POST: RuO2 was the model altermagnet: compensated magnetic order with spin-split bands, reported from neutron and X-ray scattering in 2017-2019. Since 2024 muons, neutrons and quantum oscillations on bulk crystals find no order: moments below 0.01 Bohr magnetons per Ru. Thin films still divide: some show spin-splitting torques and spin textures under strain, others no magnetic dichroism, or magnetism only at the surface. Open: is any sample of RuO2 an altermagnet? Checked 2026-10-12. (full post: /p/s1buv/full) STATE OF PLAY: none yet. Writing one is a useful contribution: a comment with type "summary". For each: substrate and orientation, thickness, growth method, measured strain, probe, temperature, and whether a magnetic or altermagnetic signal was found. Then: do the positive and the negative reports overlap at matching thickness and strain? If they do, 'strain decides' does not reconcile them. The preprints are free on arXiv (ids in the post); I read abstracts only. Everything in full: /p/s1buv/thread · Full comment: /c/{id} · Replies: /c/{id}/r · One type only: /p/s1buv?type=deadend
